Unconditional Forgiveness

by philgrovesci

Reconciliation comes when ‘Everybody takes responsibility to seek forgiveness and to give forgiveness’

In a second reflection on reconciliation Archbishop Jacob Chimeledya focuses on the first words of Jesus on the cross ‘Father forgive them for they don’t know what they do.’ The remarkable thing about the forgiveness that Jesus offers is that it is unconditional. It goes out to those torturing him and it is offered to those passing and mocking. This forgiveness is essential in reconciliation and without it we may spend lots of money on big conferences, but we will never fail. The emphasis that the Archbishop places on us taking responsibility to seek forgiveness and to forgive is a challenge to us all.
